Before there were tons of options and stores for plus size fashionistas (especially online) there was plus size on eBay. When I didn’t have time or energy to visit thrift shops in NYC, I just scoured the deep interwebs for everything – hats, jackets, skirts, dresses, tops. And there was plenty to choose from, you just need to know the right way to go about shopping for plus size on eBay.
While out during Brunch yesterday, a friend asked me where I got the shirt pictured above, and when I say “eBay” her immediate response was “no way, really?”. This shirt, a vintage Oscar de la Renta gem, was a steal at $12 because I know my bust and waist measurements.
1. Know your measurements!
This is a major key to finding plus size on eBay. Come armed with your measurements! While I would never think of Oscar de la Renta as a brand that would have something that works for me, I was able to snatch it up because I know my sizing. Most sellers list bust, waist and hips in so make sure to have at least those three measurements. I also recommend converting your measurements to centimeters as well, as some sellers are international (especially China and Japan) so it’s good to have those numbers at hand.
And always, always, always scroll through the actual listing for measurements! DO NOT rely on the size the seller has listed.
2. Search under regular “Women’s/Men’s Clothing”.
One of the biggest mistakes plus size shoppers make on eBay is going directly to “Plus Size” when searching. Try searching by the specific garment instead, ie: ‘vintage’ or ‘blue coat’. A lot of sellers don’t identify the garment as Plus Size so you’re missing out on TONS of clothes.
3. Go in with an open mind.
You have to go in with an open mind when shopping for plus size on eBay. It takes a lot of patience, but you’ve got this! I have found some incredible pieces on eBay and have no doubt that you will too!
